Research shows that many older adults in Northern New Mexico skip medical appointments due to lack of transportation. Volunteer Drivers ease this burden by utilizing their own insured vehicles to provide rides to non-emergency medical appointments for adults 60 years of age older.

Volunteer Driver Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age.

• Possess a valid driver’s license.

• Access to a vehicle that is roadworthy, reliable, and suitable for rider’s needs.

• Possess current auto insurance that meets the state minimum requirements.

• Be in good physical and mental health to safely operate a motor vehicle.

• Possess the ability to interact with diverse populations, be reliable, and prompt.

Volunteer Driver Benefits

• A sense of pride and accomplishment for helping older adults maintain their independence.

• Optional mileage reimbursement offered at .67 cents a mile. 

• Supplemental volunteer auto insurance coverage.

• Optional meal reimbursements for longer trips.

• Volunteer times are flexible to meet your schedule.
